Gel portrait photography with budget speedlites
Whether you call them flash guns, speedlites or even speedlights, they're probably more versatile and powerful than you ever imagined. Kirk walks you through the basics of shooting gelled portraits with speedlites, but not just any speedlites, we're talking £50 Yongnuos. In fact, the whole setup we used to create these gelled portraits is on a budget. The modifiers are even speedlte specific, so you don't need to spend a fortune to capture something a little bit different. The only area we didn't skimp on was our amazing model, Tillie https://www.instagram.com/tillie_feathermodel/?hl=en
In this episode, you'll learn how to use off camera flash, set your speedlite's power, work with flash gels, as well as working with models. There's lighting diagrams to show you our studio lighting setup for the technique, and a bunch of portrait lighting tips. We'll also talk about colour theory, and how to pick the best gels to work in combination with each other to create the best looking gelled portrait effects you can.
This tutorial will work with any brand or price of speedlite, studio strobe and even continuous lighting, and there's something for every one from portrait beginners, to advanced flash gun users. All you need to do is book yourself a model, sit back and enjoy our video!
