Walking with LGMD 2023
July 12 2023: in this video I am 45 years old, diagnosed with limb girdle muscular dystrophy 28 years ago at the age of 17. In just the past two years I have seen a drastic change in my physical health. When I walk I’m not landing heel, ball, toe but instead the entire foot is landing on the ground at once. I show in this video when I’m trying to walk like everyone else does, I can do a slight heel, ball, toe. But when I go back to my normal walking technique, it’s more of the entire foot landing on the ground. This may be something I need to focus more on when I walk. I’ve also started walking with a stick as my balance has come into question. I also feel more stress in my toes to hold me in place, from falling forward, and also my calf muscles straining to hold me upright. This isn’t new but more noticeable than years past. Hip flexors, Achilles tendon, remain weak and making walking more of a struggle. The stick helps me in case I lose my balance which has happened in recent months. Overall, I feel a little weaker than my 2021 LGMD videos.
