In this video lecture/discussion session from my Spring 2013 Introduction to Philosophy class at Marist College, we look at one of the most often referenced sections of G.W.F. Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, his discussions of Self-Consciousness and the Master-Slave Dialectic. I walk the students through some of the dialectical developments in this difficult section, and we end by discussing how the Slave continues to develop while the Master stagnates.

If you'd like to see more in-depth Hegel videos, check out my Half-Hour Hegel series, where we are going through the ENTIRE Phenomenology of Spirit, paragraph by paragraph -- the series is curated here: http://halfhourhegel.blogspot.com/
