Taking to the skies today! In this showcase, I’m breaking down a custom flying and aerial locomotion system built in Unreal Engine 5.

The system transitions smoothly from standard ground movement into full 3D flight with realistic physics-driven banking, acceleration, and air-braking logic. I focused heavily on getting the visual weight right—the character leans heavily into tight turns and shifts their posture based on velocity, making the traversal feel fast, responsive, and incredibly satisfying.
