LMS Virtual.Lab Motion Timing Belt

The PDS Timing Drive module allows engineers and powertrain designers to efficiently construct and launch a dynamic analysis of a Timing Belt subsystem. Users can construct single stage or multiple-stage, single-sided synchronous belt systems. Models can be exercised at constant RPM or through an RPM range by linear or step-sweeps. Users can specify linear or nonlinear resisting load torques on any of the sprockets, pulleys or idlers. Pivoted or Translational tensioners can be added, and can be mechanically or hydraulically actuated. These models are planar, but can be extended to be fully 3-dimensional if desired.

Included with PDS is a special looping algorithm that determines the proper belt path and accurately wraps each belt tooth segment along this path to a precise position and orientation around each sprocket pulley and tensioner.

Results include bearing loads, tensioner or guide loads, as well as contact loads and tension plots for individual chain links or belt segments. Additionally, users can plot tensions and transverse vibrations at specific locations on a free span, so that results can be compared more easily against experimental data.
