Every single mentor I've had throughout my internships has given me this same piece of advice. If you're a software engineering intern, practicing this one soft skill could makes all the difference in securing your return offer.

And that is: managing expectations.

Your success often doesn't come down to your code output or the metric impact of your internship project - it depends more on interpersonal relationships, your midpoint and final evaluations, your intellectual vitality, and our ability to take ownership of problems despite ambiguity.
