The Ultimate Baby Opossum Compilation — Part 1!

Settle in and relax with 10 minutes of beautiful baby rescue opossums!

Opossums are the only marsupial native to the USA. We are virtually immune to rabies, are gentle, and are helpful to have in your neighborhood — we'll eat ticks, slugs, and other critters you may not want around.

My family and I don't encourage opossums as pets — it's best to be kind to them and let them enjoy the wild. Putting some treats out (opossums love grapes!) or a warm outdoor place to sleep in the winter is great and much appreciated. Of course, if you see an animal in distress or in need of emergency care, please contact a local wildlife rehabber asap. Animal Help Now — with an app and a website at ahnow.org — uses your location to provide you with contact information for wildlife rescues close to you! Download the app or bookmark ahnow.org and you'll be prepared when the time comes to be a wildlife hero.

Opossums are omnivores and they need very specific nutrition to stay healthy and prevent metabolic bone disease. Please do not take babies from the wild! (Use ahnow.org to find a local rehabber if you come across an abandoned baby :) Many well meaning people try to tame babies and mistakenly feed them poor diets for their species. This invariably leads to sad and debilitating health problems for the opossum — they will get very ill. Because of their high maintenance care requirements (and also legal considerations of ownership) we very much encourage loving and being kind to opossums in the wild, but not keeping them as pets.

That said, there are many ways you can get close to animals — contact your local wildlife sanctuary or animal rescue and ask how you can get involved! Sometimes it might take training and certification, but if you're passionate about wildlife there are many departments and rescues that will be grateful and happy to have you! And if it is your dream to be an opossum (or other animal) caretaker, there are often unreleasable individuals who will need humans with the right training and certifications to give them the best, most dynamic and wonderful lives possible. If you have the time and desire, you can do it (and if not, that's okay too!)!

Thank you so much for all the love and support!!!! Hugs and kisses xoxoxo Starfish the Opossum @itsmesesame
