Audi A3 1.6 FSi High Pressure Fuel Pump Cam Follower Tappet Change P091

This video shows the process I used to change the cam follower for the high pressure fuel pump on my step son's 2003 Audi A3 1.6 FSi.
The reason for the change was the car had low power and engine management fault code of "P091 - Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Control Circuit Low". We had already changed fuel filter, the low pressure pump in the tank which meant that the issue was almost certainly caused by the high pressure fuel pump. Apparently worn cam followers are common on this engine, so checking it was our next port of call.

The follower was completely worn through and the cam was marked. We will have to change the cam and another new follower at some point in the not too distant future.

After swapping out the follower we then dropped the engin oil, took the sump and oil pick-up off off and washed them both out . There was small metal flakes in both. Once the sump was back on we refilled the oil pick changed oil filter.

The car has run much better since this work and now is able to accelerate past 40mph again!
