India’s GCCs: AI Boom Hides Massive Job Cuts | VARINDIA News Hour

Welcome to VARINDIA News Hour

India’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are witnessing record hiring growth even as artificial intelligence quietly reshapes the workforce landscape.

With nearly 1.9 million professionals employed across GCCs, experts estimate that almost 55% of current roles face significant disruption due to rapid AI adoption and automation.

Organizations are increasingly deploying AI-driven systems across finance, compliance, KYC operations, customer support, and software maintenance functions.

Industry projections suggest that a typical 4,000-employee banking GCC could shrink to nearly 2,400–2,800 workers by 2028 as automation replaces repetitive and process-heavy roles.

Salesforce’s latest research indicates that Indian HR leaders expect a massive surge in Agentic AI adoption by 2027, with organizations targeting higher productivity, efficiency, and outcome-driven operations.

As AI agents begin handling a majority of routine tasks, companies are moving away from traditional headcount-based growth models toward performance and outcome-oriented strategies.

Routine operational positions including L1 IT support, manual QA testing, and repetitive back-office functions are expected to see the highest levels of automation over the next two years.

The transformation is creating a unique paradox where aggressive hiring and large-scale workforce reduction are happening simultaneously within the same organizations.

The shift is also raising important questions around reskilling, talent strategy, future job creation, and the long-term impact of AI on India’s technology workforce.

Key Focus:
• AI-driven transformation in India’s GCC ecosystem
• Workforce reduction through automation and Agentic AI
• Shift from headcount-based to outcome-based operations
• Rising adoption of AI in finance, compliance, and tech support
• Growing concerns around future jobs and talent strategy
