A single journey ticket allows travel from one station to another on a specific train and date, without a return trip included. For instance, if a passenger holds a single journey ticket from Delhi to Srinagar on the Vande Bharat train, they would first travel from Delhi to Katra on the Vande Bharat Express. From there, they can board the Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat train either on the same day or the following morning, depending on the schedule.

The Katra-Reasi section is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters and improve freight transport efficiencies. Beyond connectivity, the new link will provide a reliable and environmentally friendly transportation option for passengers and goods across the region.

"Indian Railways remains fully committed to the timely completion of the USBRL project. With a focus on creating world-class rail infrastructure, the initiative aims to provide passengers with exceptional amenities while meeting international standards," officials stated.

The 272-km Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link aims to connect Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country by a broad-gauge railway line. In view of the importance of the USBRL in providing seamless and hassle-free connectivity to Kashmir, it was declared as a “National Project” in 2002.
The Jammu–Baramulla line is a railway track being laid to connect the Kashmir Valley in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir with Jammu railway station and thence to the rest of the country. The 356 km railway track will start from Jammu and end at Baramulla. It comes under the jurisdiction of the Firozpur railway division of Indian Railways' Northern zone. The 359 m (1,178 ft) tall Chenab Bridge lies on this line, which once completed will be the tallest railway bridge in the world.
