NEW TRAFFIC VIOLATION FINES 2025
Penalty for drunken driving:
The penalty for driving under the influence has been increased to Rs 10,000 and/or 6 months imprisonment. Repeat offenders will face Rs 15,000 fine and up to 2 years in jail. This is a significant jump from the previous Rs 1,000 – Rs 1,500 fine.
Using Mobile While Driving:
If you use mobile while driving, you will have to pay Rs 5,000. Earlier, the fine was Rs 500.
No Helmet / No Seatbelt:
If you are riding on bike without a helmet, you will pay Rs 1000 as a fine. Earlier riding without seatbelt used be fined at Rs 100. Additionally, your license can get suspended for three months. Also, if you don’t wear a seatbelt, you will be fined with a Rs 1,000.
Driving without valid licence:
Carry your driving licence always otherwise, you will end up paying Rs 5000 as penalty.
No insurance:
Rs 2,000 fine (Rs 4,000 for repeat offenders).
No pollution certificate – Driving without the certificate can cost you Rs 10,000 as fine and/or six months in jail with community service.
Triple Riding & Dangerous Driving:
Carrying more than two passengers on a two-wheeler will now cost Rs 1,000, while reckless driving or racing will result in a Rs 5,000 punishment.
Not Yielding to Emergency Vehicles: Blocking ambulances or emergency response vehicles will cost Rs 10,000 fine.
Signal Jumping & Overloading:
Jumping traffic signals now come with a Rs 5,000 fine. On the other hand, overloading vehicles will come with a Rs 20,000 penalty.
Juvenile Offenders:
Minors caught driving will need to pay Rs 25,000 fine, and can also get behind bars for 3 years. Their vehicle’s registration will get cancelled and they will be banned from obtaining a driving license until 25 years of age.
