The Infinity Saga that made up the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first three phases was beyond what comic book fans could ever have dreamed of with an epic finale in Avengers: Endgame. What could possibly top the 23 movies that made up the Infinity Saga? There are a lot of characters waiting in the wings with Marvel having access to over 7,000 characters and ever intention to use as many of them as possible. There are signs that the future of the MCU lies in space, and there’s one threat from space that looms large and could be the driving force of Phase V of the MCU, and that’s the Annihilation storyline. With Nick Fury transforming the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into the Agents of S.W.O.R.D., making S.H.I.E.L.D.’s mission more proactive by intercepting Earthly threats in space. The story could bring together the Guardians of the Galaxy, Richard Rider’s Nova, the Skrull and the Kree to fight the leader of the Negative Zone across a lot of properties. Even better, like Wanda and her House of M story that could bring the Mutants to the MCU, the Annihilation Wave could provide an opportunity for the First Famly of Marvel to join the MCU. The Fantastic Four’s rogues gallery plays a key role in the Annihilation storyline, not just with the Skrull and Super Skrull, but also in the planet eater Galactus and his heralds including Silver Surfer.
