Gardens of Bomarzo, Lazio: Great Excursion for Families with Children in Italy

Bomazaro Gardens in the Lazio Region of Italy are just outside of Rome, make a great visit for garden enthusiasts as well as for families with children. Bomarzo was a medieval fortress, converted like other strongholds in the Cimini Hills into a more elegant and fashionable Renaissance "Villa". The "Villa" in the Italian sense of the word means "Estate" and frequently refers to park-grounds and that is exactly what the Bomarzo "Bosco" or "Villa" refers to here. The Sacro Bosco, colloquially called Park of the Monsters, also named Garden of Bomarzo, is a Manieristic monumental complex located in Bomarzo, in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio, Italy. The gardens were created during the 16th century by Pier Francesco Orsini, as a romantic gesture to his late wife "who filled him with love and inspiration". This garden is a living testament not only to the importance the Italian Renaissance artists placed on the importance of imagination, but this garden is a testament to love and romantic inspiration.
