City of the Sun was born in the subways, streets, and local bars of New York City. In the very beginning, what became some of the band's most devoted fans discovered them while waiting for the C train after work, or walking across Union Square Park at sunset. As many may know, New Yorkers are generally unaffected by street performers, or "buskers," but this guitar duo's sounds managed to grab plenty of attention. Be it their driving rhythms, precision, speed, or fluid melodies—something, a certain spark, entrances passersby.

Now describing City's sound can be a bit of a challenge—words never seem to give it justice. It's sort of like a gourmet dish: though complex in its ingredients, the components are so masterfully crafted and blended that they create a whole that makes perfect sense. You may not be able to discern what exactly went into the plate, but it tastes really damn good. It's a mélange of flamenco, blues, and indie/folk rock. Their smooth tones are accompanied by technical flourishes that only enhance the experience. It's not unusual to see wide eyes and slack jaws at a live City of the Sun performance—audiences are amazed by the skill the young self-taught guitarists have cultivated—fans have described them as "tremendous", "powerful", "mesmerizing", and "a re-invention of acoustic music."
