Five Years Off the Grid!! --- and all the other news from the Little House
Hi, everybody! We've lived off the grid -- as in not connected to the power grid -- for five years this spring, and we are thriving in this lifestyle. This video is mostly an update on our day to day, including our busy spring.
I'm happy to say that the hard push of early spring is past. We are still working hard, but more like we always work hard, and less like crazy time. Anyway, apparently there's time for cake, so there really should be time for making YouTube videos. :)

For those who are curious, a few more details on the gardening projects:
The trees I planted are pine, mulberry, elderberry, black cherry, wild apple, and American plum. The bushes that you can see around the little house are purple lilac, woods rose, and huckleberry. The herbs are split or moved from our herbs down by the yurt, except for the rosemary, which came from the nursery.
We have marigolds and vegetables in the rain garden, on thick compost, because the bottom of those deep beds is still very compacted and drainage is too poor to plant in the bottom of them. I may dig them out again and try again for a sunken garden in a year or two.
My dad (Esther's dad) has planted vegetables in the straw bales under the big window, and is going to plant in the straw bales further back as well. He has hip and back pain and can't reach the ground, so we're hoping we can make straw bale gardening work for him. :)
And...we'll show you Milo's garden -- the dragon garden -- in a vlog very soon. It's one of the things that is saving my life right now. I love it so much. ❤️🐉
I hope you all are gardening happy, if you're in the North, and settling into fall if you're in the South. We wish you all happiness and joy from the Little House!!! Your work matters, and so do you.
Love,
Esther and the rest of us
