The history of the Terek football team based in the city of Grozny dates from 1946. It was then named Dynamo, renamed Neftyanik in 1948 and Terek in 1958. The team was a regular participant in all Russian Federation and Soviet All-Union competitions for more than 40 years. It played in the top tiers of the Second League in the All-Union Championship and won the title of champion of Russia among the Second Division teams. Terek won the Russian Federation Cup in 1974 and ranked fifth in the First League of the All-Union Championship in 1978.
