DL139 1980s Quantel Ramcorder For 12 Seconds Of Digital Video!
In this video i take a look at my now working Quantel Ramcorder.
The Ramcorder was a awesome bit of engineering from Quantel that connected to then new Quantel V-Series Paintbox to give the user 323 frames (around 12 seconds) of uncompressed digital video for TV production stored entirely in RAM. Amazing stuff for 1988!
It is an external box with a total of 2048 1 mbit DRAM ICs inside to give 256 Megabytes RAM total and SDI digital video i/o it allowed animation, compositing and rotoscoping in the late 1980s though the Quantel Paintbox.
