US media coverage of Trump is ‘feral’

Given President Donald Trump is being outspent by his opponent and is often on the other end of the “feral” media, the only way he can win is if he hits the campaign trail, according to Joe Hockey.

Reputable polls are showing former vice president Joe Biden leading President Trump in both national and many state-wide surveys.

A polling average collected by FiveThirtyEight shows Mr Biden leading the president – on average – by 10.4 percentage points, up close to four points in the last month.

However, a recent Gallup poll asking respondents whether they are “better off” than they were four years ago shows a 56 per cent positive response.

Mr Hockey said whether or not somebody is ‘better off’ is normally a “clear indicator” of whether a government or president is going to get re-elected.

“It’s your re-elect indicator; whether you think your country and you are better off than you were when the election was last held,” Mr Hockey told Sky News.

“That’s why I’m not writing off Donald Trump.

“Because there are these sort of polls out there which do suggest that his vote is going to be bigger than any of the other polls.

“The number of people who are responding to general pollsters at the moment overrepresents Biden’s support and underrepresents Trump’s support.”
