UFC superstar Robert Whittaker gives an interview about his childhood, getting into martial arts and MMA, fighting in the UFC for his family and his upcoming fight against Kelvin Gastelum. Robert Whittaker grew up poor, his family was in the Australian housing commission and his father got Robert Whittaker into martial arts because he wanted Robert to be able to use public transportation and defend himself. Robert Whittaker feels that fighting is not a sport, but rather a lifestyle and every fight changes you. Whittaker sees himself as a warrior and that’s what he was put on this Earth to do. When Robert Whittaker is fighting someone in the UFC, his mentality is me or him, live or die. Fighting in the UFC is really stressful, so Robert Whittaker tries to not think about it right up until the day of the fight and he uses books and video games to keep him happy and distracted. Robert Whittaker believes that UFC fighters draw the most strength when they have something to fight for and for Rob, that is his family.

Robert Whittaker(born 20 December 1990) is a New Zealand-born Australian professional mixed martial artist who is based in Menai, Sydney. He is signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is a former UFC Middleweight Champion. A professional MMA competitor since 2009, Whittaker was a contestant on the first series of The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes and won the welterweight tournament. Whittaker became interim middleweight champion after winning the title at UFC 213; he was promoted to undisputed champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the UFC Middleweight Championship in 2017. As of January 19, 2021, he is #1 in the UFC middleweight rankings and as of March 29, 2021 he is #13 in the UFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.
