Planting a Jelly Palm | Pindo Palm ( Butia Capitata )

Looking for a palm with delicious fruit? Try a Jelly Palm! Not only it's one of the easiest palms to grow, it has one of the tastiest fruits you'll ever have!.

Pindo palm growing tips:

Full sun anywhere in the U.S.

Winter: Frost sensitive when young so, protect its first year in ground. Cold hardy to zone 8.

Structure: It will grow to about 10-20ft tall. Fronds expand about same width.

Root system: Shallow roots, water frequently. It's drought tolerant once fully rooted, but that just means it will take longer to die without water. If you want production, water it!.

Flowering/fruits: It flowers sometime in the spring and fruits are usually ready to harvest sometime in the Fall depending on your local temperatures. Depending on the size of your plant, it may take 5 years+ for it to start flowering.

Soil: It will grow in any soil as long as it has good drainage.

Container growing: Yes it will grow in a container. It will grow best if planted in ground though. It may not flower in a container as the plant needs to reach full size before it can fruit.
