Government to introduce mandatory code obligation changes to combat scammers
Sky News Investigations Reporter Jonathan Lea reveals the government is set to introduce changes to mandatory code obligations for providers to better protect customers and combat scammers as more Australians fall victim to frauds.
Around $3.1 billion is estimated to be have been lost to scams in 2022.
Mr Lea told Sky News host Sharri Markson the changes will end up end up putting "greater responsibility" back on the banks, the telcos and also the digital players.
“It’s the first time we’ve seen a whole ecosystem style structure here which seeks to make sure that when it comes to consumers like you or I, there is a wall that protects us.
"And ensures there are mandatory standards when it comes to the delivery and protection of our critical data.”
