New Mexico Rain Heads Out with Up-and-Down Temperatures 10-15-2025

Morning Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips has a look at the weather ahead. Soggy air has remained but is especially present across the higher elevations through Eastern to parts of the West New Mexico Highlands with some storms moving to the northeast. Behind the storms that previously moved through or are still lingering around, east-gap winds are a little bit gusty for very few areas, while some fog is developing in the northern valley floors to eastern parts of the region, as well as a few areas west of I-25. Around-freezing temperatures are confined to the Northern Mountain peaks to the far-northern to western valley floors, while elsewhere is mostly starting off in the upper 40s to the low 60s. In combination with a jet stream to the northwest having already met up with the low-level moisture from the east that has fed into the lingering tropical moisture, one more day of precipitation is in store. Many areas in the mountains will receive rainfall with wet snowfall in the higher-mountain peaks in Northern New Mexico to Colorado, while thunderstorms will form in areas to the east but even fewer areas from the Rio Grande Valley to the west. Flash flooding is still likely in a few of the strongest of storms with some pockets of hail with gusty winds. Fewer clouds before precipitation re-ramps up will allow afternoon temperatures to reach around or above normal. High temperatures will mostly range in the high 50s to the lower 80s with breezier conditions. Low-level moisture has remained as the pendulum swing pattern of somewhat-muggy mornings out east with breezy easterly winds shifting to southwesterly drier winds in the afternoons forming storms to the east will still continue. With drier air slowly returning, temperatures will drop as the jet stream drops into the region with even cooler air accompanied by mostly calmer winds with the dry air.
