Oops! What I Learned from My Writing Fail

In this video, Erin Lebacqz shares the opening story from her upcoming High-Value Writing WORKBOOK! This story includes an “oops,” but Erin learned from her writing fail. When we make mistakes in our writing, the best thing we can do is talk about it. What went wrong? For what reason? That learning can help us improve our writing for the next time!

In Erin’s situation, she found out she tends to provide more detail in emails than many readers may want. Too many details can be overwhelming. Sometimes, we forget to think about how our writing will “feel” to our readers. In this example, Erin learned that her writing felt like “too much” to her reader.

What other “writing fails” have you accidentally done? Let’s share our stories so we can all learn from these experiences. None of us write perfectly, but luckily, we can learn more every day by thinking about how our writing might impact our readers. Similarly, we can observe ourselves while reading, and see what strategies work for us as readers! Then, we can use similar strategies when we write ourselves.
