CAEN LIBERATED -

(13 Jul 1944) Recent heavy rains in Normandy meant another battle, that with the mud. The battle for Caen was preceded by a real Montgomery barrage. Everywhere prisoners were taken making the total taken in Normandy by the 5th July over fifty thousand. The fall of Caen was nearly accomplished with the German army in retreat to the south of the river Orne.
