My Latest Batch: The Zigzag Saga Continues!
A few more experiments with my Zigzag patterns. I’m out or true blanks (aside from some onesies 🫤) at the moment so these were all done on shirts left over from a large batch of scrunch ice dyes I made a while back that were mostly pretty boring so I put them aside to re tie and dye again one day….
The first one is my Zigzag Cubed (2B version) run horizontally. This is the most complex version of the Zigzag patterns. While I was able to fold up the pattern, due to how small I made the pleats I couldn’t quite flatten the creases sufficiently so the zigzags would line up nice and straight like they do when folded in paper and the more I tried to fix one row the more it would pull the next out of alignment so I decided to just average out the misalignment and bind it tight with fishing line but forget the the honeycomb ties. I also decided to stop the pattern around the sleeves and transition to Kenney ties the rest of the way.
The second one I used the same pattern but used a slightly shorter run of it going vertically making for much bigger pleats… still I was a little curious what a wig wag pattern would look like and after a bit of back and forth the wigwag idea won out so I left out the honeycomb ties again and just bound it with rubber bands.
The third shirt was the original zigzag squared pattern run horizontally and dyed in a wigwag pattern as well. Loving these but I can’t wait to play with some real blanks to get some less muddled results. Anyway I’ll get some process videos out when I can. Thanks for checking out my work!
