Doulas provide physical comfort and emotional support during labor. They facilitate communication among patients, families, and the healthcare team.

When a doula is present, patients are more likely to:
• Have a normal, vaginal birth and avoid a cesarean birth.
• Avoid using pain medication during labor.
• Have positive feelings about childbirth.
• Have a shorter labor.
• Have a healthy baby.
