Bonny Doon, Ann Arbor Summer Festival “Full Set"

Cosmic American music from “some of the most refreshing additions to the 2018 indie rock landscape” (Vice). Bonny Doon are a new Detroit quartet writing some of the best dreamy slacker pop in the state, and their efforts are going national with a fifty-stop US tour this summer. Their self-titled début featured hazy, bright, and summery guitar textured songcraft reminiscent of Neil Young, Smog, and Kurt Vile. It proved that these are versatile musicians, moving out beyond their youthful territory in the rock and punk bands Tyvek and Growwing Pains. Their follow-up, Longwave, took an even more dramatic turn resulting from a week spent in an intimate songwriting conversation in the Northern Michigan woods. Extending a light touch to warm, melancholic alt-country, Longwave was called by Pitchfork “a sober, spartan folk-rock record with a spontaneous feel.” Definitely music to ponder. Catch this talented group on the rise.
