SS Derbent - a torpedoed WW1 oil tanker 5 miles off the north coast of Anglesey

The SS Derbent was a small oil tanker, 3200 tons & 310 foot long. She was torpedoed in 1917 by U 96 ( not the U 96 from "Das Boot"). She sank in 42m & rests on her starboard side. The port side is at 28m, all of the crew survived. We dived off the Julie Anne out of Amlych with Elfyn Jones, I dived with Tony Close on open cicuit while the rebreather divers are Colin Hill & Martin Walmsley. It was just at the beginning of the plankton bloom which reduced the viz but still a great day out. Our second dive was on the Dakota. We will have to go back in decent viz to get some better footage
