Tutankhamen's Tomb: Dust Removal

Stephen Rickerby demonstrates dust removal from the surface of wall paintings in Tutankhamen's tomb.

Every person who enters the tomb introduces humidity, dust, and carbon dioxide into the small space. Fluctuation in humidity may put physical stress on the paintings. Dust from clothing and shoes settles on the wall paintings, which are not perfectly flat, and obscures their brightness.

Any cleaning requires meticulous care as we can see from conservator Stephen Rickerby demonstration of how dust is removed from the surface of the wall paintings. The newly installed ventilation system should reduce the need for future cleaning.
