Emerging sunspot blasts X1-class solar flare! Spacecraft sees it

A new sunspot that is emerging in the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory's field of view blasted an X1-class solar flare on May 15, 2024.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured footage of it in multiple wavelengths.
