Broody Hen vs. Incubated Eggs || Part 1 || Will a Hen Adopt Incubated chicks?
#broodyhen #incubatingeggs #homesteadchickens
Hi friends!
LOVE this time of year! You always know its spring when the hens get broody. Over the years, we've had a few broody hens here and there...but sadly we lost one to sickness & one to a predator. It's been quite a while since we had another hen go broody.
I'm so excited that we FINALLY have another broody hen...& actually, to our surprise, we now have TWO broody hens.
In this video we are taking you along as we show you the differences in incubating your eggs in an incubator vs. having a broody hen that will do all the work for you!
It's my preference to let the hen hatch her own eggs. But if you don't have a broody hen, you may have to incubate your eggs with an incubator. Not all chickens are broody! Having a broody hen makes things SO much easier.
She keeps them warm & teaches them to eat etc., eliminating all the responsibility from you! No heat lamps, no cleaning out brooder boxes...nothing. God is amazing and these mamas have all the instincts to do it just right.
Stay tuned as this video is only PART 1...I'll be sure to keep ya'll posted on our 2nd broody hen and also some of the chicks that hatched that weren't doing so well in this video. We're still not sure if they're going to make it. Sometimes, sadly...that happens.
Having an incubator or broody hens on the homestead is a great way to ensure your flock numbers stay where you want them. No more running down to the local farm store to buy new chicks!
Thanks for joining me today!
