P2A 2022 Highlights, Crashes & Pain // In Under 10 Min

Back into racing this year at the Paris to Ancaster gravel, road and mud race. This year I signed up for the 100km and they also held a "traditional" 70km version but it actually only added up to 56km for some reason, a 45km and 20km.

We couldn't have had better weather. It started at 8am in Paris Ontario's Fairgrounds with a cool 5c but the sun was shining and by the time we arrived in Ancaster it was close to 25c. Sun burns were visible if you weren't covered in mud.

I was feeling pretty good overall after having bonked severely last weekend at the "Hell of the North" 92km race. I ate and drank much better today and although I'm no where near the front groups, I had fun keeping up with the younger groups. I was in Wave 1 but after 64km, I got a rear flat that didn't seal so I had to put in a tube. It took me a while and once I got back up and running I hitched a ride with the Bateman's crew flying up from Wave 1 of the 70km race. Thank you to Jeremy and Geoff who let me catch a wheel.

At about km 30, we witnessed a pretty horrific sounding crash and I truly hope those involved were ok and unhurt. These things happen in races but please keep thinking of safety first when riding these types of events. I crashed last year doing 50km/hour and it was a trip to the emerg. Cross my fingers for those riders!

Although these are just the highlights, you get a good sense of what this race is about. This is the first year they have done the 100km and I truly liked it better than the old format. The extra road and rail trails were great and the final 30-40km were very similar to years past.

Thanks to Bateman's Bike Co for the great help in preparing my Pink Brodie for this event.

Thanks to P2A and cycling ontario for a great event!

I had a blast!
