Abandoned RAOC Marchington Military Barracks - lots of cool graffiti inside!

Royal Army Ordnance Corp (RAOC) Marchington was built around 1957. The RAOC dealt with the supply and maintenace of weaponry and munitions and various other military equipment, that was until 1993 when the corp amalgamated with the Royal Logistics Corp.

Marchington Camp (St Barbara's Barracks) was built to replace an earlier WW2 hutted camp (accommodating military personnel) to service Central Vehicle depot (CVD Marchington) - now the industrial estate adjacent, which stored and maintained B (soft-skinned) vehicles.

The barracks closed in 1970 after the CVD closed, and after this, the Territorial Army took over until finally closing the site in the early 1980s.
Marchington also housed the army's fleet of Green Goddesses which came under the jurisdiction of the Office Of The Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM).

The only part of the military site still left are these 6 barrack buildings you see in this video. Unfortunately we couldn't access every one of them at the time we visited. The Marchington Barracks (St Barbara's Barracks) was used in 1941 by the US Army as a World War Two (POW) prisoner of war camp. Though most of the barracks were tents and fencing during and after WW2, the buildings as mentioned above, were built around 1957, however they have been left to rot since the 1980s.

Part of the original site has been transformed into the industrial estate and the married quarters has now become all private housing (both of which you can see in close proximity to the barrack buildings we are in, during this video - another reason for us not wanting to stay too late at night with torches on). There are currently plans to build 80 new homes of the remaining area of the site, with the demolition of the empty barrack buildings.

There have been reports of paranormal activity at this site with a few ghostly sightings seen and heard by others. It is meant to be haunted by many ghosts and stories of people being murdered here.
