"The interviews that we have seen, the Cuban people want the American Marine to land in Cuba because they say anything is better than what they have right now. I hope that that doesn't happen because we want a peaceful change. The brigade wants a peaceful change in Cuba. But if it doesn't happen, there's going to be a bloodbath and then, the Americans are going to have to intervene."

STORYLINE:
Federal prosecutors  announced criminal charges against former Cuban President Raúl Castro in the 1996 downing of civilian planes flown by Miami-based exiles as the Trump administration escalated pressure on the island’s socialist government.

The indictment accuses Castro of ordering the shootdown of two small planes operated by the exile group Brothers to the Rescue.

The charges, which were secretly filed by a grand jury in April, included murder and destruction of an airplane. Five Cuban military pilots were also charged.

About 1,500 Cuban exiles, with the backing of the CIA, attempted to invade the island nation at the Bay of Pigs on April 17, 1961, in an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro’s fledgling Communist government.

The Bay of Pigs Brigade 2506 Museum and Library in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood coincided with the anniversary of the Bay of Pigs Invasion.

Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have called for a change in Cuba’s leadership, with ongoing talks between the U.S. and Cuba in their early stages, according to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

A punishing U.S. blockade has led to increased blackouts, with just a single fuel delivery in the past months.
