The Golden Age of Christmas TV Specials
Today, the most popular Holiday specials on TV are almost exclusively classic animated specials and seasonal theatrical movies. But back in the days of three TV networks and weekly variety shows, each Holiday season was programmed wall-to-wall with brand-new musical comedy specials. The formats were often the same: Celebrities pretended to host televised Christmas parties, enlisting their kids and grandkids to participate in awkward musical numbers. Here's a sampling of Christmas cheer from those glorious videotaped Holiday visits.
