The Pyrenees mountains, where about 50 ski resorts in Andorra, France and Spain are located, have experienced huge snowfalls over the past three days. Official snow statistics are 1.5 meters in the last 72 hours, although some skiers have found pockets, in their opinion, 2 meters deep and snowdrifts up to 4 meters. A number of resorts have closed ahead of the blizzard, just as heavy snowfalls and hurricane winds were predicted, but these resorts are now starting to reopen as the storm dies down. Initially, the heaviest snowfalls were expected to hit Spanish ski resorts, but ultimately the most falls were in French areas. Vallnord in Andorra was hit by 82 centimeters of snow, and in Spanish areas up to 70 centimeters of snow. It was the largest snowfall in the region, where mostly dry and sunny weather has been observed for more than a month. The weather is now sunny, temperatures slightly below freezing, but the avalanche danger in the region is currently high at level 4, one level below the maximum in several areas of the Pyrenees.
