Charming Mackinac Island Michigan: Frozen In History 4K Video

We had a wealth of good luck when we visited Mackinac Island, Michigan. To start with the weather was fantastic, we inadvertently bought tickets on a Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry that included a tour of the famed Mackinac Bridge, and, if that wasn't enough, we visited on Lilac Festival day, the summer season-opening event, which meant we were treated to a parade through downtown.

Even without the parade, Mackinac Island is a lot of fun. After a short ferry ride from Mackinaw City, you land on the island, which, with its ban on motorized traffic and wealth of Victorian-era resorts, houses, churches and businesses, is essentially frozen in time at roughly 1890. We walked all over the island and found beautiful views in every direction, accentuated by the passage of horses and carriages, most ferrying happy passengers to the stunningly beautiful Grand Hotel. We also got a great meal and a couple of pints during the parade. The last unbelievable stroke of good fortune we had was boarding the ferry back to the mainland with a pipe and drum band that was eager to keep their parade performance going all the way across to the other side. We're still grinning!

If you're headed to Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this tiny island located where Lake Huron and Lake Michigan meet is an absolute must-see.
