Anthony's talk will cover Information Disorder and tools to critically analyze social media. Information Disorder is defined as Mal-information (using factual information to do harm), Dis-information (Deliberate generation of untrue information with intent to do harm), and Mis-information (accidental dissemination of untrue information with no intent to do harm). The talk will involve examples of interactions and investigation with traditional and social media, techniques in personal fact checking of stories and posts, and resources to help those interested in enhancing their skills in media literacy. Examples will include personal experiences with the effects of Information Disorder. The talk will go into detail on the tools available for the average person to perform their own fact checking and language analysis. These tools will help the individual to determine the intent of the author, the targeted audience, the trustworthiness of the source, and the factuality of the content. The resources will provide the end user with further information and detail about how to increase their investigative skills and critical thinking capabilities when confronting information on line and in the media. Through classes and interactive projects, Anthony Miranti works to expand inclusivity in art and media, while reinforcing the responsibilities that content creators have.
