ABOUT TALKWORKS
TALKWORKS FILMS was set up in January 2009 as an independent offshoot of the UK-based sustainable security think-tank Oxford Research Group to pursue its programme of dialogue on nuclear futures with the key policymakers and independent experts in the field at a time mounting nuclear crisis termed the Nuclear Tipping Point (see: https://vimeo.com/70890898).
Founded and coordinated by Anne Piper and Rosie Houldsworth and working in association with independent filmmaker Andy Russell of Different Films Ltd. (http://different-films.com/), and supported largely by Quaker charitable trusts, we set out to film personal interviews with the prominent public figures and leading disarmament and global security experts about about why they had come together across their political divides for the first time in 50 years to combine their weight behind the multilateral nuclear disarmament agenda urged by President Obama (see: https://vimeo.com/4055111) soon after he came into office, and committed the United States to lead the other nuclear nations in taking immediate and concrete steps to ensure the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons for future generations.
We also interviewed students in the Oxford University Parks to discover how much the younger generation are aware of nuclear weapons, and to ask them what kind of world they envisaged for their future : we incorporated their voices into our April 2010 promotional film ‘Signs for Hope’—https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96N7_y-Oh4w&t=16s
Our films are aimed at the expert and layperson alike—anyone who is concerned but feels helpless and confused about the nuclear threat and other crises we face in today's world.
