Isolated Shower moves into Panama City Beach

Watch as an isolated updraft spins and drifts into the east end of Panama City Beach. Updrafts are columns of air rising vertically through the atmosphere, typically triggered by surface heating. As the ground warms, it causes the air above it to lift. Often, this initial lift is sparked by a boundary, such as an outflow, front, or terrain feature. Once rising begins, the atmosphere takes over. If the rising air remains warmer than the surrounding environment, it continues to ascend and expand. This vertical motion forms the cloud structure you see: air rising, cooling, condensing into cloud droplets, and eventually dissipating as conditions change.
