I’m a Mormon and Wife of a Fallen Soldier

Mormon Vendella has two heroes. One is her husband, who was killed in Iraq. The other is Jesus Christ, through whom she believes all things are possible.

Vendella is a mom to three beautiful children and lives in Peachtree City, where you can get anywhere by a golf cart. In 2005 her husband, Joseph, was deployed to Iraq. He was a military intelligence officer. Two weeks before he was supposed to come home, two soldiers came and told Vendella that her husband had been killed. After this news she just wanted to sleep. One day she was so angry that she asked God, “Why did you have to take him from me?” At that moment she realized that she still had three kids to raise. Her focus then switched from her loss to her children. Vendella now sits on the board for Gold Star Families, a group that supports families that have lost someone in the war. Vendella believes Christ has her back, and through Christ all things are possible. Vendella loves to dance and is a mom, a wife of a fallen soldier, and a Mormon.
