How to Fly a Drone in Controlled Airspace - LAANC and AIRMAP Instructions

Let's face it, "THE MASSES ARE ASSES" could be reason enough for the FAA to BAN drones altogether, Instead, Flying a Drone in Controlled Airspace and Near an Airport INSTANTLY using LAANC and Airmap is finally possible because of the newly improved process from the FAA, upgrading the LAANC system to include Recreational Pilots Authorization! Taking the DJI Mavic Pro out has never been easier and I have to say, kudos to the FAA for enabling this to happen! Think about it, they could have pushed hard to make drones illegal anywhere near an airport and add to the untrue but sad stigma, that bad people buy drones, are malicious and only want to endanger the public. I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with the PR from the FAA spokespeople who randomly pop up on YouTube, Twitter and the like. These people talk about flying drones with their kids during their time off, drone pilots as fellow airspace consumers and responsible enough to share airspace with a 747 jetliner. A lot of education put out aims to guide those who simply don't know certain things about piloting a drone under the premise that simply a lack of information can lead to accidents or injury, not only malicious intent. So hats off, for the moment, to the FAA for not being a dork. I love this hobby and proud to be a contributing member to the community. Flying in controlled airspace, legally mind you, not trying to hide in the bushes and feeling like some deviant, being happy to engage curious onlookers with education backed up with a part 107 licenses bearing the stamp of the FAA is not what I expected a year ago when I picked up my first drone. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of things that feel like over-reach, but that being said there's a lot that IS being done right AND it could be a lot worse. Good Flying! Captain Keith

============ NEW UPDATE 7/23/2019 ===========
Well, the FAA kept to their schedule! LAANC is now available for recreational pilots! Apparently Airmap, UA Sidekick and Kittyhawk are authorized by the FAA... I personally have used the Airmap and it does work pretty well. Good News! Good Flying!

============ NEW UPDATE 7/5/2019 ============
The FAA just announced the the LAANC authorization system will be available to recreational pilots beginning July 23rd, 2019! What does LAANC do? LAANC automates the application and approval process for airspace authorizations in controlled airspace. Through automated applications developed by an FAA Approved UAS Service Suppliers (USS) pilots apply for an airspace authorization. This happens nearly real time!
