Why AI-drawn watches show ten past ten

In 2025 tests by watch writers, AI image tools asked for 6:35 drew about 10:10 instead. Newer models may do better. Here's the likely reason.

- Watch ads have set the hands to 10:10 since the 1950s (logo clear, smile-like face). A small 2017 study (46 people) found it lifted mood and slightly raised willingness to buy.
- So product photos online skew to 10:10, and the leading theory is that AI learned the picture, not the clock.
- ClockBench (Sep 2025): people read 89% of tricky clocks right, the best model 13%. The live leaderboard's top model is now about 77%.
- One 2025 study: extra clock pictures in training helped, but models stumbled again on distorted faces and arrow-tipped hands.

Newer models may do better. Try it and tell us what time you get.
