Indonesian navy searching for missing submarine with 53 on board
An Indonesian submarine has disappeared off the north coast of Bali. The navy has asked for help from Australia and Singapore as it searches for the vessel and the 53 crew members on board. The KRI Nanggala 402 was taking part in a torpedo drill but failed to relay results of the exercise as expected. This is believed to be the first time such an accident has happened in Indonesia's naval history. According to information on the national armed forces website, the submarine was built in Germany in 1981 and underwent a two-year refit in South Korea that was completed in 2012.
