War Memorial, Notre Dame de Lorette

This new memorial, dedicated on Nov 11, 2014, is a large elliptical structure made up of large panels with names inscribed on them. More than 584,000 names of men who died in the Nord or Pas de Calais regions of northern France. These are men and women from all nations involved in the war in this area. This includes all the Commonwealth countries (294,000 of them), France, Belgium, Germany, Portugal, and even a few Russians and Romanians. The numbers are staggering when you see them laid out like this. This is located on the Notre Dame de Lorette spur, or ridge, near the town of Souchez, near Vimy Ridge.
