The 4 Step Process for Mixing Instruments

The 4 Step Process for Mixing Instruments:

1. Does it need EQ? This is to shape the tone of the sound, lowering muddy frequencies, creating more definition, etc.

2. Does it need compression? This is to smooth out the dynamics, make sure every note hits evenly, add attack to plucked sounds, etc.

3. Does it need saturation or distortion? This is to give it more thickness, body, or tone

4. Does it need effects? This is where creativity comes into play doing things like adding reverb to guitars and other sounds or adding delays to things to create even more depth

You’re not gonna use all 4 of these on everything but following this process can help you approach mixing elements with more direction!
