#1 Frantic Efforts to Avoid Abandonment: This includes both real and imagined scenarios of abandonment.
Oh Beom-Seok has real scenarios of abandonment when his spot in the group gets replaced by Yeongji, a girl who joins their group. Beom-Seok goes through extreme measures in order to not leave the group of Si-Eun and Su-Ho, going as far as to kidnap and torture Yeongji because she “ruined the group” by coming along. Beom-Seok fears abandonment, especially from his safe person who was Su-Ho.
#2 Unstable and Intense Relationships: Alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
Idolizing Su-Ho, Beom-Seok does everything to be relevant and be a part of Su-ho’s life. He loves hanging out with him and getting attention. A simple thing such as Su-Ho not following Beom-Seok on instagram sets him off and causes “splitting”. Beom-Seok goes from periods of idolizing Su-ho to hating him with every bone in his body. Simple interactions that were once okay like an arm around the shoulder turns into something triggering Beom-Seok.
#3 Impulsivity in At Least Two Areas: These areas are potentially self-damaging, such as spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, and binge eating.
Though some might argue Beom-Seok did it to fit in, he spends money carelessly and does any substance to “fit in” with the people around him. Beom-seok blows through $200,000 in the course of two weeks: spending the money on alcohol and vapes. Beom-seok gets heavily intoxicated and shows up to class as such, which results in beatings from his father.
#4 Chronic Feelings of Emptiness.
Beom-seok has periods of extreme emptiness where he locks himself at home and doesn’t come out for days. He literally feels empty as he doesn’t interact with others and isolates himself in dark spaces, refusing to care for any personal needs.
#5 Inappropriate, Intense Anger or Difficulty Controlling Anger: Frequent displays of temper, constant anger, or physical fights.
Seen especially with Su-Ho. Beom-Seok displays uncontrollable temper and gets into physical fights with Su-Ho. His anger leads him to beat Su-Ho until he is close to dying, leading him to develop a year long coma.
