Alcohol Ink Ripples on tile process (#3)

(Video has no sound). Yes...this really is a video of just lines of alcohol ink painted on a tile! Sound exciting? Well, it truly is not, but I have had requests on Instagram to do a tutorial of one I posted there a few weeks ago. It’s so simple but it’s easier to understand if you actually see it done. I like the end result, which has a kind of 3-D ripple look. This video is about as entertaining as watching paint dry. In fact, that is exactly what this technique calls for...moving barely wet ink that dries quickly before moving to the next line. This leaves a nice tight pigmented line that doesn’t “bloom” all over the place. I use a watercolor brush filled with alcohol to reactivate the dried ink on my tile (which also doubles as my palette!). This kind of brush allows me to really control the amount of alcohol I use. Often times I use tiles that I have previously painted on that I just don’t like...never waste ink! You end up with really interesting colors from all of the blending. Did I mention it’s sooooo relaxing to create?! Any questions, just ask!
