UNIFEM at the World Youth Conference 2010 - Singer Debi Nova on Ending Violence against Women

In this short video, singer, songwriter and Grammy Award Nominee Debi Nova (www.debinova.com) speaks out against gender-based violence and for her support of the United Nations UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign, aimed at preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls around the world. Nova was one of three musicians who performed at the UNITE concert at the World Youth Conference in León, Guanajuato, 24 August 2010.

Before the concert, Costa Rican-born Nova interviewed with UNIFEM on the issue of ending violence against women and young girls, before spreading the same message on stage to an enthralled audience.

The concert marked the first day of Nova's commitment to UNiTE. After her performance, MTV in Latin America presented Nova with a Chiuku Award, honouring her as an "agent of change."

UNIFEM contributes to the objectives of the UNiTE campaign through its Say NO - UNiTE to End Violence against Women initiative, www.saynotoviolence.org, a global platform for advocacy and action.
