How I Camp in a Wheelchair in My Wheelchair Friendly Trailer, Part 1: My Braun Under Vehicle Lift

In Canada, summer is camping season. But camping is tricky in a wheelchair. For years I stayed with my parents in their trailer when I camped, but that meant getting lifted in and out, helped into the bathroom and basically totally dependent on other people the whole time I was camping. That was frustrating for me and not a tonne of fun. Then my husband and I got a giant tent and used that. But that meant no bathroom near by and freezing cold nights (not my favorite).

8 years ago we bought a trailer that was a small toy hauler that has an ideal wheelchair friendly layout without the "adapted" price tag. When we first got it I needed help getting into the trailer and also help into the tiny bathroom. That was better than having no trailer, but I was still frustrated not having total independence. 2 years ago I found a lift for the trailer and figured out how to use the bathroom completely on my own. Camping is now completely accessible and I couldn't be happier!
